Where does our school lunch come from? HISD Food Facility--6th grade
|
Ever wonder where the school food comes from? Curious culinary kids did, and so we found out at the Houston Independent School District's Food Service Production Facility.
HoustonISD is the largest school district in Texas and the 7th largest in the country. Our food facility makes 270,000 meals a day! Now that's a lot of cinnamon toast. We tripped on over to the food facility to check out the operation as well as served as mock health inspectors. It was an eye-opening experience. It takes a lot of energy and expertise to feed every student, teacher and staff member in HISD. Check out our pics as we suited up and chilled out in the football sized freezers, inspected the kitchens, and observed 1,000 whole-wheat kolaches roll out, bake, and packaged for our 276 and counting schools.
