CHEF SCHOOL @GLECPVA IS A PERFECT PARING
|
PLAY DATES WITH PASS & PROVISIONSChefs Seth Siegel-Gardner and Terrence Gallivan, are rock stars of the food world. Both worked together under the tutelage of famed Chef Gordan Ramsey, in New York, and forged a friendship inspiring Houston's #1 restaurant
Pass & Provisions. To top it off, turns out they're GREAT neighbors to boot. Once a month we are ushered into the kitchen under the watchful eyes and gentle guidance of Chefs Seth and Terrence. Influenced by what's growing in our school garden, we bring our student grown local and seasonal ingredients to chef school, where we collaborate to create our own chef-inspired lunch. The entire Pass & Provisions family has made us part of theirs, and exemplifies service and care for their future customers. Our students will never forget cooking at Pass & Provisions, it is a monthly highlight, but more importantly, our learning experiences much like the delicious handmade bread at P&P has risen and elevated the expectations of our students. VIDEO: Culinary Kids share what they're learning in the kitchen at Pass & Provisions in this mash up of their edible adventures. So cool they were studying chemical reactions and had hands on experience in the P&P kitchen making liquid nitrogen ice cream! Our fav unsolicited quote of the day..."It's Life Science, but with food!" ~Chefs Emily & Courtney |
TEA TALKS WITH OUR LOCAL FOOD HEROES
Students learn by doing, but sometimes it's good to just sit and listen, so we designed Tea Talks. Over a cup of herbal tea, delectable snack and pencil in hand, students can connect and hear from our local food heroes.
We relish our SAGE advice and THYME with local homegrown vegan chef Pat Greer of Pat Greer's Kitchen. Conveniently located three houses down from Gregory-Lincoln, we are fortunate be a hop, skip, and a jump from a our heroine. Chef Pat has an organic way of imparting knowledge and connecting kids to what they eat. She stands in her own truth about food waste, food insecurity and how to leave this earth a better place, as well as exposes students to the best in raw, vegan and vegetarian cuisine.
Our SWEET connection with local food writer David Leftwich of Sugar & Rice magazine reveals another viable career in the food industry. David, is a local writer who connects Houstonians with locally sourced Gulf Coast and regional foods. As a father first, his heart is with kids. David has inspired our students to unearth their own food stories to express their personal connections to food through writing.
